Terms of Service

By accessing or using Thunee.net ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

Thunee.net is a free online platform for playing the South African card game Thunee. The Service provides single-player games against AI opponents, multiplayer games with other users, leaderboards, and game statistics tracking.

The game rules implemented follow the standard South African Thunee rules, with configurable variants.

You may create an account using Google, Facebook, X (Twitter), or play as a guest. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials through your chosen authentication provider.

You agree to provide accurate information and to not impersonate other players. Display names must not contain offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content.

When using the Service, you agree NOT to:

• Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to play games (unless using the built-in AI)
• Exploit bugs or glitches for unfair advantage — report them instead
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other players via in-game chat
• Collude with other players to manipulate game outcomes or rankings
• Attempt to access other players' accounts or private data
• Use the Service for any illegal purpose
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure

Thunee.net is committed to fair play. The following are considered violations:

• Colour cutting: Intentionally failing to follow suit (enforced by the game engine)
• Illegal communication: Partners sharing card information outside the game
• Rage quitting: Repeatedly abandoning games in progress
• Rating manipulation: Intentionally losing to manipulate ELO ratings

Violations may result in warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans at our discretion.

The Service implements Thunee rules based on the standard South African tradition. Multiple variants are supported (2-player, 4-player, 6-player) with configurable settings including:

• Strict vs. forgiving penalty mode
• Thunee partner catch ball values (4, 6, or 8)
• Khanack calculation variants
• Alternative dealer rotation
• Two to Clear variant
• 13-point game variant

Lobby hosts may configure these settings. By joining a lobby, you agree to play under the configured rules for that game.

Ranked games affect your ELO rating. Rankings are calculated using a standard ELO system. We reserve the right to reset ratings or adjust the ranking algorithm if necessary to maintain competitive integrity.

Leaderboard positions are based on ELO ratings and are updated in real time.

The Thunee.net name, logo, visual design, and software are the property of Thunee.net and its owner. The traditional Thunee card game rules are in the public domain.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the Service without written permission.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

Thunee.net is a game for entertainment purposes only. No real money, gambling, or wagering is involved in any aspect of the Service.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Thunee.net and its owner shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. You may also delete your account at any time.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Game statistics and account data will be deleted upon request.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
