How the ELO System Works
Every player starts at 1,000 ELO. After each ranked game, your rating adjusts based on the result and your opponent's strength. Beat a higher-rated player and you'll earn more points. Lose to a lower-rated player and you'll lose more. It's a skill-based system — the more you play, the more accurately your rating reflects your ability.
Your ELO determines your rank. There are no placement matches, no artificial gates, and no way to buy your way up. Your rank is earned at the table.
The Seven Ranks
Climb from Bronze through to Grandmaster. Each rank reflects a higher level of skill and game understanding.
What Gets Tracked
Your ranked profile tracks everything — games played, win rate, balls scored and conceded, special calls made (Thunee, Double, Khanack, Jodie), win streaks, and your best-ever streak. All of this feeds into the global leaderboard.
Fair Play
Ranked games have built-in protections. The game validates every card play for colour-cutting (failing to follow suit). Players who abandon games face ELO penalties and temporary cooldowns. Repeat offenders get progressively harsher penalties.
Players can report opponents for toxic behaviour, suspected cheating, or collusion. Reported players are reviewed and can be suspended or banned.
Game Modes
Solo vs AI
Practice against AI opponents at four difficulty levels — Beginner, Normal, Pro, and Impossible. Solo games don't affect your ranked ELO. No sign-in required.
Casual Multiplayer
Play with or against other players without affecting your rating. Create public lobbies or private games for friends. Supports 2, 4, and 6 player variants.
Ranked Competitive
ELO-rated games that count toward your rank and leaderboard position. Sign in to access ranked play and start climbing.
Private Lobbies
Create a private game and share the link or code with friends. Private lobbies support all player counts and can be casual or ranked.
Everything Is Free
There are no paid tiers. No premium features locked behind a subscription. No advantage that money can buy. Every player competes on the same level. Ranked play, leaderboards, friends, spectating, hand history — all free. Thunee.net is built for the community, not for profit.
